Companies Sued After Study Reveals Weed-Killer in Food Products

On the heels of a jury awarding a man $289 milliion after it was found that he got cancer from glyphosate, a widely used weed-killer, a study by the non-profit Environmental Working Group (EWG) revealed trace amounts of glyphosate in the products containing oats, granolas and snack bars. In fact, 31 out of 45 tested products had levels higher than what some scientists consider safe for children, including Quaker Old Fashioned Oats, Cheerios, Quaker Dinosaur Egg Instant Oats, Great Value Instant Oats, and Back to Nature Classic Granola. Some consumers have now taken action in bringing lawsuits against some companies under consumer protection laws for advertising these products as "wholesome" "natural" and "healthy" when they contain this potential carcinogen.
