Pre-Cut Melon Recalled for Risk of Salmonella

The CDC reports 93 illnesses linked to Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, from pre-cut melon. Caito Foods is voluntarily recalling fresh cut watermelon, fresh cut honeydew melon, fresh cut cantaloupe and fresh cut mixed fruit containing one of these melons. FDA Orders Withdrawal of Surgical Mesh Products

In the latest of escalating actions to protect women's health, the FDA ordered the manufacturers, Boston Scientific and Coloplast, of all remaining surgical mesh products indicated for the transvaginal repair of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) to stop selling and distributing their products in the U.S. immediately. The FDA determined that the manufacturers, have not demonstrated a reasonable assurance of safety and effectiveness for these devices, which is the premarket review standard that now applies to them since the agency reclassified them in class III (high risk) in 2016. SEC Goes After Private Companies

The SEC's recent enforcement actions against private companies, including Theranos and its executive as well as Jumio and founder CEO, demonstrate that they are not immune from scrutiny under the federal securities laws.
